The Saint Thomas Aquinas Old Boys Association (OT) has honoured two of its members for their meritorious achievements and excellence in the fields of education in this country. They are Professor John Owusu Gyapong, Vice Chancellor of the University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS), and Professor Abednego Feehi Okoe Amartey, Pro-Vice Chancellor of the University for Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA).

At a short ceremony in Accra yesterday to honour the two professors, Mr. John Gbolonyo, national president of the association commended the two for their service to humanity.

According to him, the determination and hardwork of the two professors had gotten them to their current positions, adding that they have made their alma mater proud, hence, the need to honour them and commend them for their achievements.

Prof. Gyapong (OT 78) expressed appreciation to the association for the honour done him, and stressed that he had not regretted going to St. Thomas Aquinas.

He recalled “the good old days at the school” and urged the current students to make the best of the times through effective bonding and helping one another.

Prof. Gyapong said he was never on top of his class, neither did he get any prize during speech and prize-giving days, but the grace and mercies of God had kept him to the top of his career.

He, therefore, urged the students not to look down on themselves or their background, but always rely on God for direction.

Prof. Amartey (OT 86), on his part, thanked the teachers and head teachers of the school for their strict discipline that had shaped them in their chosen career.

He urged the students to abide by the motto of the school, which is “Truth will always set you free” and always strive to study hard.

Mr. Cyril Kwadzo Dadey, headmaster of the school disclosed that the school placed 17th out of 895 SHSs in the 2015 West Africa Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (WASSCE).

Additionally, the school was first in Mathematics, Science and Visual Arts subjects in the Greater Accra Region.

Mr. Dadey appealed to the old boys and philanthropists to assist the school construct an assembly hall, a modern library, accommodation for staff and dormitories for the students. As part of the ceremony, the association donated a flat screen television, laptops and a projector to aid in the teaching and learning of mathematics and science.
