The world is a competitive place and the education you get can only take you but far.
The UPSA experience is tailor-made to give students a giant leap ahead of their peers. Our relatively small population also allows greater access and personalized attention from Faculty and Staff. Here are special features that can only be found at UPSA:
The professional master class was launched in 2016 as a new initiative to connect final year university students to industry professionals in a classroom setting. Beyond classroom teaching, the students and lectures build mentor-mentee relationships to help students gain practical knowledge on how the corporate world works.
The programme was created in response to Ghana’s growing disparity between tertiary education and job market needs. Ghanaian graduates are often well-versed in theoretical principles and academic knowledge but lack practical industry insight. The University of Professional Studies Accra aims to produce employable graduates who can make a seamless transition into the workplace and be a valuable asset to any company.
Starting in August 2017, all undergraduate and graduate students enrolled at UPSA will be offered free tuition in any professional course taught at the university. Although the University has previously offered professional courses on an ad-hoc basis, it is now creating a policy to institutionalize the initiative, expand the number of courses offered, and make the courses available to all students for free.
The vision is to arm UPSA graduates with not only a university education but also with certifications that apply directly to the business industry. This will give students an edge when they enter the job market. Professional courses can be taken concurrently with students’ degree programme classes making it possible to graduate with both a degree and professional charter certificate.
Courses offered are:
As a premier business and professional university, University of Professional Studies aims to equip students with valuable skills and introduce them to real-life experiences that they will encounter in their future careers. In line with that, all final year undergraduate students are required to write and defend a thesis before their peers and a panel of faculty members from UPSA and external institutions.
Unlike most universities where dissertations are reserved for Master Degree students and above, UPSA has made an undergraduate thesis a graduation requirement for all students. Dissertations provide students with an opportunity to fine-tune their skills presenting, information sharing, team collaboration, receiving constructive criticism, and persuading an audience to adopt their ideas and recommendations.
