Biography

Stevens Justice Avenyo is a hardworking French lecturer having gone through a three-year post secondary teacher education course at the then Mount Mary Training College, Somanya (now Mount Mary University College of Education) where he was awarded Teacher’s Cert. “A” (1995-1998).

Two years later, he gained admission to the University of Ghana, Legon where he pursued a degree programme leading to the award of Bachelor of Arts in French and Linguistics (B.A. Hons) in 2003. In 2007, he enrolled on two master’s programmes at the same University which he pursued concurrently with success. He therefore holds both Master of Arts degree in Adult Education (M.A.2009) and Master of Philosophy in French (MPhil French, 2010).

Stevens also holds various leadership positions in church and community development associations in his hometown, Adaklu Anfoe, in the Volta Region.

He is expected to start a PhD programme in French Didactics at the University of Cape Coast in September 2018.

Teaching Statement

Globalisation has made it imperative that language unites the people of the world. For any effective communication to take place, language must be mutually intelligible. Teaching and learning of French at the tertiary level, especially at University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA) for one academic year, provide one with the greatest opportunity to acquire the basic language skills to become functional in French, though not completely fluent.

I would therefore teach French using modern audio-visual materials that bring about a paradigm shift from the traditional French language classroom situation to contemporary communicative ways of teaching and learning a foreign language, to stimulate the interest of learners through varieties of learning activities.
