July 03 2018: The soon-to-be-inaugurated Language Centre of the Faculty of IT and Communication Studies has organized a three-day Language Clinic for 85 members of the Teachers and Educational Workers Union (TEWU) of UPSA.   The training programme, which was in English and French is being attended by about 85 members of the union with the purpose of polishing their competence in the English and introducing them to the French Language.

At the opening ceremony of the Language Clinic, the Vice-Dean of the Faculty of IT and Communication Studies, Dr. John Bosco lauded the initiative by the Centre and urged members to fully participate. Dr. Bosco further encouraged members to see the programme as a lifetime opportunity to acquire important language skills for effective communication.   Some of the topics covered were: Current Trends in Pronunciation; Contemporary Language Usage and Modern English Structure and Usage

According to the Chairman of TEWU-UPSA, Israel Nyatuame who spoke on behalf of his colleagues, members had been looking forward to the training programmes and expressed the hope that more of such would be regularly rolled out for members. Participants also expressed delight about the opportunity to go back to the classroom to learn everyday English and French language usage.

The UPSA-Language Centre is being established to empower students to acquire good a command over languages and critical thinking capabilities for academia and the work environment. The Centre handles all language and communication related courses, which are compulsory in the University. Again, the Centre aims to provide training and practice of linguistic competence, academic fluency, and writing for academic purposes. It organizes language workshops and seminars in English, French and Ghanaian languages.
