The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA), Professor Abednego Feehi Okoe Amartey has been voted the “Most Respected CEO” in the education sector at the maiden edition of the Ghana Industry CEO Awards.
The award, which seeks to honour the most outstanding Chief Executive Officers in corporate Ghana across 19 delineated sectors of the economy, is an initiative by The Business Executive (TBE) Magazine with a view to encouraging improved corporate governance and institutional leadership in the country.
Prof Amartey beat stiff competition from nine other vice-chancellors in the education category to emerge the winner at the glamorous event. The shortlisted institutions included Ashesi University, University of Ghana, Legon, Accra Institute of Technology, African University College of Communications and Central University. The rest were the University of Cape Coast, University of Health and Allied Sciences, University of Mines and Technology and the University of Development Studies.
Speaking shortly after the colourful ceremony, Prof Amartey dedicated his award to the Almighty God for bringing him this far. He also acknowledged the management, staff, and students of UPSA for the overwhelming support and votes throughout the nomination period. “This award goes to my entire team at UPSA for their wonderful support and votes throughout this period,” he said.
The Vice-Chancellor also dedicated the award to his other contenders saying “I appreciate my other colleagues for the equally wonderful work they are doing at their respective institutions. We are all winners.”
Nominees were drawn from privately owned and public enterprises who are members of the Association of Ghana Industries, Ghana National Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Ghana Club 100 or listed on the Ghana Stock Exchange.
