A seven-member delegation from the University of Professional Studies, Accra has participated in this year’s Ghana Chamber of Mines Public Lecture series at the invitation of the Chamber. The lecture forms part of lined-activities to commemorate the Chamber's 90th-anniversary.

The student delegation, led by Charles Nii Ayiku Ayiku, a lecturer at the Department of Public Relations Management had the opportunity to interact with key stakeholders as a way of building their knowledge in the mineral exploration sector.

The Public Lecture which took place at the Alisa Hotel in Accra was under the theme; “A Responsible and Sustainable Mining Industry; a Partner for National Development.”

Addressing the participants, the Vice-Chancellor of UMaT, Professor Jerry S. Y. Kuma who doubled as the Chairperson for the occasion noted that the call by the umbrella body to stakeholders to brainstorm over ways of improving the mining industry was laudable. Professor Kuma, an Environmental Hydrogeologist and Geophysicist also added that the move by the Chamber of Mines was a catalyst to bridging the gap between the sector and national development.

The Ghana Chamber of Mines is the main minerals industry association in Ghana and it represents the collective interests of companies involved in mineral exploration, production, and processing within the country.

The delegates from UPSA were Kenneth Aidam, Richmond Opare Addo and Daniel Selormey. The others were Keziah Dekpor, Hannah Aku Nkansah, and Jasmine Balfour.
