The School of Graduate Studies of the University has held the 2019 edition of the leadership colloquium on the theme, “The Role of Strategic Leadership in The Ghana Beyond Aid Agenda.” The aim of the event was to give graduates the opportunity to identify issues for skillful planning and strategic leadership skills to enable them perform in their various businesses. 

 

Addressing participants at the gathering, Pro Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof. Charles Barnor, observed that to enhance development in the country, there was the need to make good use of the country’s available resources. 

 

“Resources are just monies that you have refused to convert to capabilities. It is the capabilities that you derive in strategic management that will ensure that you survive as an institution,” he noted.

CEO of the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme (NEIP), Mr John Ampontuah Kumah, stressed on the need for Ghanaians to desist from corrupt practices and focus on developing the country at large, as he explained the 'Ghana Beyond Aid Agenda'.

 

“From the political point of view, the country has since independence relied on foreign aid to change and develop the country, henceforth the country should plan based on our resources, while still inviting external assistance if provided,” he said.

Minister of State at the Presidency, Alhaji Abu-Bakar Saddique Boniface, addressed participants on the various types and essence of leadership. According to him, Ghana Beyond Aid is geared towards creating a self-sufficient country, instead of moving from country to country looking for aid.

 

“To have a sufficient and prosperous governed economy, you must have a leader who has a vision. You realize that with the collective effort of all Ghanaians, the concept can be well understood and accepted,” he said.

As part of the programme, the graduate students made presentations to a panel of 10 companies, including VINAB’s Shipping Limited, Ace Medical Insurance Limited, Chocomac Ghana Limited, Anloga District Assembly, Synergy Commodities Limited, Entrance Pharmaceutical and Research Centre, Healthcare Networks Limited, Emcure Pharmaceuticals, Radiance Petroleum Limited and Food 101. 

 

The Colloquium was also attended by Deans and Directors, students and staff of the University.  Telecommunication and media representatives in attendance shared their opinions, thoughts and suggestions for the Ghana Beyond Aid Agenda.
